Odissi Dance
Description
Odissi, also known as Orissi, is one of the eight classical dance forms of India. It is particularly distinguished from other classical Indian dance forms by the importance it places upon the Tribhangi (literally: three parts break), the independent movement of head, chest and pelvis and upon the basic square stance known as Chauka or Chouka that symbolises Lord Jagannath.
We offer all levels - beginners - intermediate and advance.
The class starts with Boomi Pranam, the salutation to the Mother Earth, followed by a warm up and then we practice a set of training execises, aiming at developing the body in relation to the Odissi Dance requirements.
Once the students are ready, we introduce the basic steps (Tribhangi and Chauka or Chouka) along with the Mudra, and only 6 months down the line we actually start working on choreographies.
